Balbek Bureau’s Innovative Proposal for Temporary Housing
The Ukrainian design studio Balbek Bureau has published an innovative proposal for temporary living spaces for displaced Ukrainians who have lost their homes.
Experienced architects have carefully analyzed international practices in the design, construction, and management of such temporary settlements. Based on this, they have developed their own vision for such a project.
Modular Construction System
The key feature is the combination of various modular elements – residential, community, kitchen, and sanitary blocks. Balbek Bureau’s founder, Slava Balbek, notes that this “construction kit” system is universal and can be applied at both the state and private levels, adapting to different types of construction, terrain, and investment volumes.

The architects’ primary task was to ensure decent living conditions for those who have lost their homes. According to Balbek, “You can take away the home, but not the dignity.”
